Description: According to Sun et al. (2020), the pyrochlore group mineral present in the sanidinites (medium to coarse-grained syenite) of the San Vito quarry is classifiable as fluorcalciopyrochlore. Analysis performed on a sample supplied by Massimo Russo, in which sanidine is the main felsic constituent (70%). Sodalite (~5%) is present as poikilitic crystals intergrown with euhedral sanidine; mafic minerals include clinopyroxene (15%) and opaque Fe-Ti oxides (10%); fluorcalciopyrochlore, baddeleyite, fluorite and britholite-(Ce) occur as late-stage accessory phases.

'Vesbine'
Description: According to Balassone et al. (2019), the yellow-grenish concretions and incrustations of "vesbine", a substance described for the first time by Scacchi (1879) on the so-called lava of 1631 eruption, have a non-constant composition: the more common concretions and incrustations, that show a texture with a distinct colloform growth banding, are composed of mottramite and chrysocolla plus vanadinite (the presence of microcrystals of the rare vanadate starovaite in association with mottramite+chrysocolla+atacamite is also reported); volborthite incrustations are more rare and, at least in the analyzed material, appear at SEM scale as platy crystals of ca. 10 μm in length.
