About Pyrochlore GroupHide

Formula:
A2Nb2(O,OH)6Z
A is Na, Ca, Sn2+, Sr, Pb2+, Sb3+, Y, U4+, H2O or ◻.
Z is OH, F, O, H2O or ◻.
Lustre:
Vitreous, Resinous
Name:
The pyrochlore group gets its name from the generic name pyrochlore which was first introduced by J. J. Berzelius for a cubic mineral found by N.O. Tank in the 1820s in a syenite pegmatite at Stavern (formerly Fredriksvärn), Norway (Wöhler 1826). It is derived from the Greek πΰρ, fire, and χλωρός, green, in allusion to the fact that the mineral usually turns green on ignition.
Nb-dominant members of the Pyrochlore Supergroup.

The nomenclature was recently revised by Atencio et al. (2010) and Christy and Atencio (2013).
A correct identification of the individual members of the pyrochlore group is only possible using a combination of several analytical methods.

Plumbopyrochlore (of Skorobogatova et al.)
SamiresiteA Pb-bearing variety of Zero valent dominant member of Pyrochlore Group

Described and named by Lacroix (1912) as a betafite with a content of Pb. It was found in a metamict state. Named after the locality, the Samiresy pegmatite in the Betafo district, V...
Stibiopyrochlore (of Pezzotta et al.)
Uranpyrochlore (of Hogarth 1977)Uranpyrochlore was previously considered to be the uranium-dominant member of the Pyrochlore group (Hogarth, 1977) but was discredited by Atencio et al. (2010) due to lack of acceptable analyses. The samples named as uranpyrochlore in previous literature...
Yttropyrochlore (of Hogarth 1977)
Zero valent dominant member of Pyrochlore GroupA pyrochlore group member where there is a cation deficit comprised mainly of H2O or site vacancies. This name is used to describe any pyrochlore where it is not possible to specify more accurately than this.
