About SamiresiteHide

Formula:
(U,Ca,Ce,Pb)2(Nb,Ta)2O6(OH,F)
Name:
After the locality at Samiresy, Madagascar.
A Pb-bearing variety of Zero valent dominant member of Pyrochlore Group

Described and named by Lacroix (1912) as a betafite with a content of Pb. It was found in a metamict state. Named after the locality, the Samiresy pegmatite in the Betafo district, Vakinankaratra Region, Madagascar. Samiresite was discredited by IMA in 1977 (Hogarth 1977) as a plumbian uranpyrochlore. Uranopyrochlore was later discredited by IMA 2010 due to inadequate modern analysis (Atencio et al. 2010). It belongs to the zero-valent-dominant pyrochlores.
