About TrachyandesiteHide

A fine grained, usually extrusive, alkaline/basic rocktype intermediate between basaltic andesite and phonolite, difficult to define without chemistry on the TAS diagram. Also intermediate in composition between trachyte and andesite, containing sub equal amounts of both sodic plagioclase and alkali feldspar, with subordinate amounts of one or more mafic minerals (biotite, amphibole, or pyroxene).

It is usually considered synonymous with latite and trachybasalt.
