Named by Gilbert-Joseph Adam in 1869 in honor of Arcangelo Scacchi [February 8. 1810 Gravina, Puglia, Italia – October 11, 1893 Napoli, Italia] Professor of Mineralogy, University of Naples, Italy. Scacchi was a systematic mineralogist and is noted for his studies on Mount Vesuvius - Monte Somma near Naples (Napoli), Italy.
