The San Bernardino Mountains, a rugged high range in Southern California, situated north and northeast of the city of San Bernardino. Their highest point reaches 11,503 feet (3,506 m) at San Gorgonio Mountain, making it the tallest peak in Southern California.

Approximately 11 million years ago, tectonic activity along the San Andreas Fault led to the formation of these mountains, and they continue to rise actively. Numerous local rivers have their source in this range, and the region gets a considerably higher amount of precipitation compared to the adjacent desert areas.

Description: Many samples were field collected by Chuck Trantham from the Eagle Mountain area. David Lowe analyzed them using XRD and XRF. Associated with calcite, which was not visible without magnification. Appearance similar to Chrysotile.
