A former Pb-Ag-Zn occurrence/mine located in sec. 3, T2N, R1E, SBM, 3.2 km (2.0 miles) NNW of Big Bear City, along the N side of Caribou Creek, on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.

NOTE: USGS MRDS database file #10116561 states that the location presented in Goodwin (1957) is incorrect. The other 2 MRDS files present substantially different geographic coordinates; therefore, it appears as if the coordinates presented in file #10116561 are presumably the correct ones.

Mineralization is hosted in limestone and mica schist. The ore body is irregular in form at a thickness of 0.61 meter. Controls for ore emplacement included a shear zone. The veins occur in the shear zone that is ½ mile (0.8 km) long. Cerussite occurs in iron and manganese oxides as gangue. The formation that encloses the vein trends NE and dip at the main workings does not exceed 20 degrees. The 2 veins are formed at the contact between the rocks. The schist is 1 to 4 feet thick. At various points along the workings is a light-colored, decomposed rock resembling a felsite. Local rocks include Carboniferous marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Mojave Desert).

Local geologic structures include a fault.

Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 30.48 meters and comprised of a 225 foot shaft and several shallower shafts.

Production data are found in: Goodwin, Joseph Grant (1957).

Recorded production during the period 1891 to 1940 (intermittent) was substantial amounts of Cu & Au in addition to Pb & Ag.
