About Mica schistHide

Originally defined as a quartz mica rock but mostly used by geologists for schists dominated by mica, usually with major quartz. The schistosity is mainly due to the parallel arrangement of mica flakes.

The definition by the IUGS is a schistose metamorphic rock with mica minerals as the only major (>5%) constituent (Fettes & Desmons, 2007).
