A former lode Au-Fe occurrence/mine located in sec. 20 and in the SW¼SW¼ sec. 21, T3N, R1E, SBM, about 8 km NNW of Big Bear City and about of Fawnskin, on private (patented) land. The property is comprised of 2 patented claims covering 26.02 acres. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. Reference places this mine only in sec. 20. Prospects on map are in sec. 21. Opened by Mexicans in the late 1850's. Reported to have been most active from the 1860's to the 1890's.
Mineralization is hosted in quartz monzonite. The ore body is 60.96 meters thick. Steeply-dipping fractures are closely spaced thropugh a zone 200 feet thick. The quartz monzonite is hard to thoroughly decomposed. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings comprised of numerous adits and shallow shafts, none more than 100 feet deep. Workings are now caved, shown only by dump material.
