A former Pb-Ag-Zn occurrence/mine located in sec. 17, T2N, R3E, SBM, 0.4 km (0.2 mile) WNW of Tip Top Mountain (coordinates of record) (along the NE end of the mountain's crest) and 1 km NNE of the Rose Mine (11 miles E of Big Bear City), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in limestone. The ore body is irregular in form, strikes NW and dips moderately to steeply N at a thickness of 18.29 meters and a length of 76.2 meters. Within the mineralized zone are several high-grade, galena-rich, veins bordered by rock heavily stained with Fe oxide. The veins average less than 5 inches (12.5 cm) thick, some traceable for several tens of feet. The zone is bordered on the N by soft, micaceous schist and grades southward into unmineralized limestone. Local rocks include Carboniferous marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Mojave Desert).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 2 shafts, each less than 30 feet deep plus trenching (1951).
1 ton of Ag-Pb ore was produced in 1941.
