A former Au-Pb-Cu-Fe occurrence/mine located in sec. 8, T3N, R2E, SBM, 2.9 km (1.8 miles) NEE of Silver Peak [1] (coordinates of record). Located in 1887. Developed by the Black Hawk Mining Company. In 1921, it was operated by the Arlington Mining Company until 1940. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.

The property consisted of 175 claims and includes workings variously known as Arlington, Black Hawk, Calle del Oro, Calumet, Cliff, Hecla, Lady Alice, Lookout and Opera.

Mineralization is hosted in rocks of the Sidewinder Volcanic series (limestone & granite). The ore body strikes N20E, N80E and dips 5-20SW, 5-20S, at a thickness of 30.48 meters. Controls for ore emplacement are not stated. The richest ore was found as streaks of hematitic gouge at least 100 feet thick. The crushed zone occurs along a thrust fault. Another zone, 75 feet thick, occurs in a limestone breccia, possibly Pleistocene landslide material exposed along the upper part of the W wall of Blackhawk Canyon, known as the Cliff Mine. Furnace (Mississippian [?]) limestone occurs overlying granitic rock. The limestone is brecciated and slightly silicified with hematite streaks running through the mass, that is slightly cemented with calcite, dolomite and irregular grains of quartz. The footwall of the ore zone is granite and the hanging wall is massive limestone. Granitic rock, gneiss, metamorphosed limestone and interbedded sandstone are present. Associated rocks include sandstone. Local rocks include Quaternary large landslide deposits.

Local geologic structures include the Santa Fe Thrust Fault.

Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of adits, a 25-ton ball mill and a cyanide plant located in the bottom of Blackhawk Canyon. The cyanide leaching plant is a 600-ton unit. The workings include open cuts, several hundred feet in length and 9 tunnels 2,500 to 3,000 feet in length. About 1,200 feet of tunnels and raises were driven in the Cliff Mine. More detailed descriptions are found in Tucker, W. Burling & Reid J. Sampson (1943b).

Production data are found in: Wright, L.A., et al (1953) & Goodwin, Joseph Grant (1957).

Production statistics: Year: 1940 (period = 1921-1940): ore (estimate): from 40,000 tons of Au ore; Cu-Pb were recovered as by-products. All ore over $30 (period values) per ton was shipped to the Selby Smelting Company. Ore under $30 was treated in a cyanide plant. High-grade ore in hematite gangue was shipped to Selby in 1934 and 1940. No other production data were found.
