The Lufilian Orogenic Arc extends approximately 500 km along the eastern Zambia-DRC border before curving westward to the Zambia-Angola border, forming a polymetallic (Cu-Co-Ni-Pb-Zn) metallogenic belt. At ∼ 880–550 Ma the subsequent convergence-compression between the Congo and Kalahari cratons subjected the Meso- to Neoproterozoic sedimentary strata of the Katanga Basin to intense compressional folding and faulting, ultimately forming the arcuate structural belt with an overall NW-SE trend. From north to south, this belt comprises five tectonic units: the Katanga aulacogen, external fold-and-thrust belt, dome zone, syncline zone, and Katanga highlands. The first three units constitute the principal components of the Central African Cu-Co metallogenic belt. Cu-Co mineralization predominantly occurs within the external fold-and-thrust belt, which hosts multiple world-class stratiform Cu-Co deposits such as Musonoi and Kamoto. The Katanga Cu-Co Belt constitutes the DRC segment of the Central African Cu-Co metallogenic system. It extends westward from the Kamoto deposit (west of Kolwezi City, Lualaba Province, DRC) through the Tenke-Fungurume and Likasi areas, to the Kinsenda deposit in the east. The belt measures over 300 km in length and 100–150 km in width.

Description: The results of LA-ICP-MS showed that Kamakanga emeralds from Zambia had stable and high contents of alkali metals (Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs) in the range of 15,120 to 20,407 ppmw (avg. 17,592 ppmw). The alkali metal concentrations, from highest to lowest, were Na, Cs, Li, K, and Rb. The Na contents ranged from 12,343 to 23,517 ppmw (avg. 15,981 ppmw); the Cs contents ranged from 626 to 2724 ppmw (avg. 1331 ppmw); the Li contents ranged from 301 to 843 ppmw (avg. 485 ppmw); the K contents ranged from 119 to 573 ppmw (avg. 369 ppmw); and the Rb contents ranged from 21 to 248 ppmw (avg. 68 ppmw). Chromophore Cr, V, and Fe contents, respectively, ranged from 76 to 2934 ppmw (avg. 1435 ppmw), 78 to 183 ppmw (avg. 128 ppmw), and 5136 to 11,320 ppmw (avg. 8556 ppmw). The concentration of Cr was much higher than that of V and the Cr/V ratio was highly variable, ranging from 0.70 to 34.35. In addition, Zambian Kamakanga emeralds had high contents of Cs (avg. 1331 ppmw), Fe (avg. 8556 ppmw), and Li (avg. 485 ppmw).[[1]]

Description: The first specimens were recovered in the 1970's but due to too less specimens, the specie was not reported. The same collector ( Joseph Lhoest ) from the early kipushites, briefed J. M. Pendeville about the locality where he found them. Then in 1988, he was succesfull and found the locality and cleaned the pocket out. The specimens were found just underneath shaft 1, along with reichenbachite and pseudomalachite.
