Description: Aesthetic crystals were collected early in 1989 although the mine was exploited since 1969. Baryte is a rich golden orange colour, large crystals over 4cm long are arranged in radiating sprays up to 30cm diameter. The finest specimens have baryte on matrix. Some floater specimens are composed of complete 360° discs similar to aztec suns.

Description: Taramite is listed as occurring at Marinkas Kwela in several articles. The taramite root-name group was redefined in th e2012 nomenclature and the pre-2012 taramite is now ferro-ferri-taramite. In addition, the defining criteria was shifted from the T position to the C-position of the amphibole moelcule. A consequence of this is that many "taramites" are now classified as "katophorite root name group minerals. Based on analytical data of "taramites" from Smithies (1992) and Smithies & Marsh (1996), the "taramites" from here is most likely ferro-ferri-katophorites.
