Köppen climate type:
A copper mine reopened in 1938. Located in the western portion of the Bethanie District @ -25.70486º S, 16.36609º E some 50 km west-northwest of the village Helmeringhausen.
The deposit was discovered & mined by British prospector Sinclair during the mid-nineteenth century, who dispatched several ox wagon loads of ore to the Prinzenbucht, a small bay south of Luderitz.
The first descriptions of the deposit were by Kuntz in 1904 & Stollreither in 1905. During 1912/13 the deposit was explored & mined by the German Colonial Bergbaugesellschaft but mining was interrupted by World War I, to be resumed in 1927 under the South West Copper Company & abandoned during the depression in 1932. The deposit has since been re-evaluated by several companies including the African Metals Corporation of South Africa (ISCOR).
