Type:
A vast area extends close to over 200 km. Until the late 1990s, quartz crystals from this area were sporadic & hardly known to collectors. Vuggy hydrothermal quartz-carbonate veins that show vast epithermal & supergene overprint are widespread & host these crystals displaying hematite coated, multi-phantom crystals, amethyst crystals often as scepters and caps. Similar isolated finds have been discovered at a few localities, a particular find was on Girtis Farm, named as the 'Kalkgat' pocket.
Note: There are no distinguishing features to separate quartz specimens from Namibia from those from the South African side of the Orange River (KL von Bezing personal comment to Debbie Woolf, June 2013). Complicating the issue of origin is that between 2003-2005, most specimens originated from localities on the South African side of the river (and the same could be said for fluorite from this area).
