Livorno is a port city and comune (municipality) on the Ligurian Sea on the western coast of Tuscany, Italy. It is the capital of the Province of Livorno. It is traditionally known in English as Leghorn.


The table shows various rutile crystals with classic and very well-formed twinning. These grains were found by the author of the photo while studying the Livorno sediments in Tuscany. Rutile occurs in crystallized or polished grains ranging in color from red to gray to black. In the table from the top:
The first three twins have the classic heart shape with an angle of 54.4°.
In the second row, the crystals have a "knee-like" twinning with an angle of 114.4°.
In the last row, however, well-formed cyclic twins have a pseudo-hexagonal appearance.
