Description: Amphiboles occur both as prograde and retrograde minerals. It occurs as a prograde mineral in the eclogite matrix and as inclusions in garnets. Amphibole+plagioclase form retrograde symplectites after omphacite, and kelyphitic amphibole replaces garnets. Mposkos et al. (2012) describe a matrix amphibole with actinolite core overgrown by Na-rich tremolite ( corresponding better to winchite in the 2012 amphibole nomenclature) and then rimmed by omphacite + quartz, suggesting a prograde metamorphic path with successive pressure increase. Several different amphibole species has been identified in these rocks.

Description: Mposkos et al. (2011) describe Na-rich tremolite/actinolite as the dominant amphibole in the kyanite-eclogite. It occurs as a prograde mineral formed before omphacite, as inclusions in garnet and, most commonly, as replacement of omphacite. The composition of this amphibole is intermediate between tremolite and winchite. Mposkos et al. (2011) named the amphiboles based on the Leake (1997) nomenclature report, in which the name is tremolite. Using the amphibole nomenclature report of Hawthorne et al. (2012), the composition is closest to winchite. Winchite has also been identified from inclusions in garnet.
