The general umbrella term "Kirki mines" is frequently used to describe several high-sulphidation, epigenetic polymetallic mineralisations occurring in an area of about 118 km2 north of the village of Kirki, spanning the border between Evros and Rhodope regional units (see also: https://www.mindat.org/mesg-284452.html). Of these, the most important mineralisation occurs at the Agios Philippos Mine, which is also known as the "Kirki mine".

Kirki is a village belonging to the municipality of Alexandroupoli, and about 3 km east of the village lie the abandoned ore-processing facilities associated with the mining activity.
