The town of Szklary has a world-class gem chrysoprase deposit. The chrysoprase occurs in a silicate-type nickel deposit (nickel-bearing serpentinite), formed by hydrothermal and later lateritic weathering of ultramafic rocks (peridotites). The deposit is cut by numerous pegmatitic and oligoclasitic veins which are associated with a nearby Variscan syenite massif.

A pegmatite is exposed in one of the pits of the abandoned Ni mine and is listed as a separate locality (Mt. Szklana Mine).

The deposit, which was was mined since the Middle Ages for chrysoprase (first known occurrence), was explored for nickel since 1891, first from underground workings and, since 1935, from open casts. The mines were finally abandoned around 1980. Excavation of the locality arranged by the 1st Mindat conference organizers in July, 2010 resulted in a major find of exceptional pimelite specimens and a mineralogical investigation is underway to re-validate the species.

Sachanbiński et al. (2000) mention also an interesting Os-bearing phase, Ba2CaOsO6, among heavy minerals of the weathering cover of Szklary serpentinite massif. Other heavy minerals include palladium, and niggliite.
