Name:
Named in 1901 by Johannes Fromme for Brunsvig region in Germany where the mineral was found.
Used by Hey (1954) in his widely used, formal classification of chlorites, for ones with Mg/(Mg+Fe) = 0.25-0.5 and Si = 5.6-6.2 atoms per 8 tetrahedral sites, but now considered a variety of chamosite.
Originally described from Gabbro Quarry (Bärenstein Quarry), Bad Harzburg, Harz Mts, Lower Saxony, Germany.
