The Vigezzo Valley is famous for many rare and unusual minerals occurring in pegmatites.

The valley itself is unusual for not having a single stream running along it, but two: in fact, it is a double-sloping valley, drained towards the west by Melezzo Occidentale stream (a tributary of the Toce River) and towards the east by Melezzo Orientale stream (a tributary of the Maggia River), which enters the Swiss territory at Camedo, to the east of Re village. The Swiss sector of the valley is called Centovalli and the stream is there named Melezza. The village of Druogno (896 m a.s.l.) marks the watershed between the western and eastern parts of the valley.
