About Gismondine SubgroupHide

Carlo Giuseppe Gismondi (1762-1824)
Lustre:
Vitreous
Member of:
Name:
Named for Carlo Giuseppe Gismondi (1762-1824), Italian mineralogist, who previously discovered "zeagonite" - a mixture of gismondine and phillipsite.
Zeolite Group.
"Gismondine-Ba" (proposed) has only been found as a secondary slag mineral on lead-rich slags. All other gismondine described prior to 2021 is the calcium-rich member, renamed "Gismondine-Ca" by the IMA. The suffix was added by the IMA in 2021, after the discovery of gismondine-Sr.

May be confused with amicite.

Mineral SymbolsHide

As of 2021 there are now IMA–CNMNC approved mineral symbols (abbreviations) for each mineral species, useful for tables and diagrams.

Please only use the official IMA–CNMNC symbol. Older variants are listed for historical use only.
