Named in 1918 by Richard Percival Devereux Graham in honor of Walter Frederick Ferrier [4 May 1865 Montréal, Québec, Canada – 15 November 1950 Toronto, York County, Ontario, Canada], mineralogist, mining engineer, and geologist with the Geological Survey of Canada, who first collected the material on the north shore of Kamloops Lake, British Columbia, Canada.
Name used for unanalysed specimens that could be either ferrierite-K, ferrierite-Mg, ferrierite-Na or ferrierite-NH4.
