Larvikite deposit area on Auenlandet, the land of the Auen farm.
Several quarries are known from this area, the most famous are the quarries located on the Strandåsen hill, named Saga I and Saga II quarries (on the upper and northern part of the hill, now closed) and Sagåsen quarry (on the southwestern part of the hill). Worked by Blue Pearl AS.
This are have erronously been named/labelled in collections as Mørje, which in fact is located east of this area.

| ⓘ Berborite Formula: Be2(BO3)(OH) · H2O Localities: Habit: Berborite-2H: hexagonal prism {100}, steep hexagonal pyramids {201}, {101} and {113}. Berborite-1 T: trigonal pyramids; trigonal prisms. Berborite-2T: pedion, hexagonal pyramid modified with a trigonal pyramid Colour: colorless transparent Description: 3 polytypes of Berborite have been found:- 1T ,-2T, and -2H. Berborite-1T and-2 T occur as crystals up to 5mm, often in intergrown groups. Pedial faces are often shining but other faces may be somewhat dull and frosty.
Berborite-2H shows a characteristic perfect {001} cleavage. Sometimes hollow cores are seen.
Berborite-1T and -2T occurred in cavities in "spreustein" (massive fibrous natrolite) together with böhmite, thomsonite, chlorite, etc. Berborite-2H was found in analcime vugs lined with fibrous aegirine together with natrolite, fluorite, and calcite, and as a rarity in spreustein druses together with gibbsite. |
