This area was prospected by short research tunnels for tungsten minerals.
At Pira Inferida, the five-elements veins attain up to 2 m in thickness, cropping out discontinuously for over 1,5 km. Host rocks belong to the Upper Ordovician (Hirnantian) Rio San Marco Formation (Cuccuruneddu Member), which consists of rhythmic alternations of HCS sandstone layers separated by shales.
