The name reflects its dominant sodium content and relationship to pharmacosiderite. Originally name sodium-pharmacosiderite, the name was later changed to natropharmacosiderite (Nickel 2008).

Clusters of randomly oriented crystals. Individual crystals are pale green, euhedral cubes without modifying forms, to 0.5 mm.
