The Yin’E Basin, located in the northern part of the Inner Mongolia, covers an area of approximately 118.3×104 km2. It is one of the few large and medium-sized sedimentary basins in China with limited hydrocarbon exploration. Additionally, the basin also exhibits favorable conditions for mineral exploration, particularly uranium, associated with the Mesozoic sandstone formations. Its tectonic position is significant as it lies within the suture zone of four major plates: the Siberian Plate, the North China Block, the Kazakhstan Plate, and the Tarim Plate, which has resulted in complex tectonic activity, including multiple phases of subsidence and uplift.
The basin consists of five uplifts and seven depressions. Major uplifts include the Luyuan and Teluoxitan in the west, Zongnaishan in the central part, and Chulu and Benbatu in the east. Significant depressions include the Juyanhai and Wutaohai in the west, Dagu in the west-central region, Suhongtu in the north, Suhaitu in the south, Shangdan in the southeast, and Chagandelesu in the east. The Yingen-Ejinaqi Basin experienced multiphase tectonic activity from the Paleozoic to the Mesozoic, including the Late Hercynian, Indosinian, and Yanshanian orogenies, which significantly influenced the development and preservation of the Paleozoic–Mesozoic stratigraphic succession. These tectonic events fragmented the stratal distribution, caused varying degrees of denudation, and induced extensive deformation and metamorphism, making studies of the Paleozoic particularly challenging.
