Bolidengruvan, Skellefteå kommun, Västerbottens län, Sverige


Complex sulphide mine (metamorphosed high-sulphidation-VMS deposit), defunct since 1967. It was once Europe's largest and richest gold mine.

Located about 30 km northwest of Skellefteå, where gold was found in 1924.

Ore production during the mine life (1924-1967): 8.3 Mton with a content of 128 ton Au, 411 ton Ag, 118 kton Cu, 566 kton As plus numerous other products. ("Ore in Sweden 2" by E. Grip & R. Frietsch, ISBN 91-20-03191-2. (in Swedish))
