Alstead is a town in southwestern New Hampshire, first settled in 1735, and incorporated in 1763. The town seceded from the state of New Hampshire (and the United States) in 1781 to join Vermont, which was an independent republic at the time (from 1777 to 1791). The town rejoined the state of New Hampshire (and the US) in 1782.
