Block 14 was first operated by the Broken Hill Proprietary Block 14 Co Ltd until 1930. The Block was later acquired by North Broken Hill Ltd in 1942. Broken Hill South Ltd acquired the Block in 1962.
Large open cut with (at least in 2000) outcrops of rhodonite in galena.
The British mine (Blocks 15 & 16) and the adjacent Proprietary mine to the northeast were mostly now swallowed in the Block 14 Open Pit (along with the old Block 14 workings, which were part of the Proprietary mine workings). See http://www.mindat.org/loc-23201.html for more discussion.
NOTE: Material from this open cut (and the Kintore Open Cut), which was very rich in secondary minerals, could be collected in the 1990s on designated dumps on the mine site of the Pinnacles mine site a few kilometres away (http://www.mindat.org/loc-5752.html).
