Large strata-bound SEDEX Cu-Fe-S deposit, consisting of several E-W trending bodies and lenses of massive sulfides. It was extensively mined since at least the 13th century for copper, iron, and later also pyrite (sulfur). Minor amounts of silver and gold were also extracted. Mining ceased in 1989. The eastern part of the Smolník deposit is now located in the cadastre of Smolnícka Huta village, which historically belonged to Smolník town.
