This is a very old mine complex for the extraction of copper and, later, iron sulphate.
There are documents proving its activity since 1465.
The mine became really important at the beginning of the 1800s, when, during the local production of iron sulphate, an easy way to extract magnesium sulphate was found as well.
The mine is partly located in the territory of Borzoli (Genova municipality) and partly in the municipal territory of Ceranesi, both in the Genova province.
The mineralized area is located in nodules within serpentinites.
