This quarry, that lies approximately 1.5 km to the west-north-west of Gunnislake works a fine-grained granite comprising one of the smaller plutons associated with the Cornubian batholith.

As the quarry has extended in a southerly direction it has cut through the lodes and workings of Hingston Downs Consols Mine.
