The town of Jacob City was built in 1865 after the ore deposits in dry canyon were discovered. During the peak years of production of the mines, around 300 people lived in the city. A school, hotel, homes, saloons, and miners cabins were all built in the city. Eventually by the early 1900's the production of the nearby mines began to slow, and the city was slowly abandoned.
