Analysis by Alf Olav Larsen
It was found that it might have similarities with "uranpyrochlore".
The analyzed specimen had a yellowish-orange secondary phase. Newer analytical work by T. Husdal possibly points towards carlosbarbosaite for this phase, but analytical work is still under way (status: June 2026). |

| ⓘ Zoisite Formula: (CaCa)(AlAlAl)O[Si2O7][SiO4](OH) Localities: Description: In the book "Norges Mineraler" by Lars O. Kvamsdal the following is written about the zoisite from Mjønes: The Mn-content is to low for the mineral to be called thulite (Støreseth 2019) and Støreseth (2019b) |
| ⓘ Zoisite var. Thulite Formula: (Ca2)(Al,Mn3+)3(Si2O7)(SiO4)O(OH) Description: By definition, thulite is a pink variety of zoisite with a variable manganese content. The pink zoisite -bearing rock found at Mjønes Tunnel is populary as a whole called thulite. The "Thulite"- rock contains beside a pink variety of zoisite, varying amounts of minerals such as quartz, piemontite, feldspar, and tremolite. PXRD analysis confirms that the pink mineral labelled by collectors as "thulite" is zoisite. SEM/EDS analyses of the pink zoisite indicate 0.1 wt% Mn₂O₃, a relatively low manganese content (Størseth 2019)[[1]] and Størseth (2019) [[2]].
In the book "Minerals of Norway" by Lars Olav Kvamsdal (2023) [[3]] the following is written about the zoisite from Mjønes: "The Mn-content is to low for the mineral to be called thulite (Størseth 2019) and Størseth (2019b)". However, since, by definition thulite is a pink variety of zoisite and it's generally based definition is not based on the content of Mn, but the color, thulite (as the poink variety of zoisite) does occur at Mjønes.
