Porphyry copper-molybdenum-(gold-silver) deposit, related to an intrusion with a central porphyry facies and an outer granodiorite facies dated at 311-283.1 Ma. Some orebodies at shallow depths are hosted in altered Middle Ordovician andesite. From the central porphyry outwards to the granodiorite, the following alteration zones occur (1) quartz core, (2) K feldspar-silica alteration zone, (3) biotite-K feldspar alteration zone, (4) quartz-sericite-epidote-chlorite zone, and (5) propylite zone. Most orebodies occur in the quartz-sericite-epidote-chlorite zone.
It has proven copper reserves of 1.688 million tons, with an average grade of 0.44 % and proven molybdenum reserves of 43,000 tons with an average grade of 0.02 %.
In the Tongshan deposit, except for Ore Body III, which occurs in
quartz diorite, Ore Bodies I, II, and V, along with other small Au-Zn and
Au ore bodies, are hosted in the andesite and andesitic tuff of Duobaoshan Formation. Ore Body V is located southeast of Ore Body III,
closely adjacent to the “Tongshan” Fault. It is hosted in the first lithological sub-section of the Duobaoshan Formation. It has a
maximum strike-length of 1600 m, with a strike of 110◦-120◦, dipping
slightly northward at an angle of 80◦-85◦, and plunging southeastward
with a plunge angle of 18◦-35◦. The ore body extends down-dip from 550
to 1212 m, with a true thickness ranging from 2 to 448 m and an
elevation range of − 123 to − 1540 m (depths from 639 to 2049 m). The
top depth ranges from 650 to 1421 m. The thickest sections, mainly
concentrated between exploration lines 1108 and 1144 and elevations of
− 500 to − 1300 m, average a thickness of 240 m.

Geochronology
Mineralization age: Paleozoic : 520 Ma to 476 ± 14 MaImportant note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
