Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Quartz vs. Asagiite
It's a classic vs a newbie as the most common named mineral in the crust Quartz is up against an exceedingly-rare sea foam-green mineral discovered just a few years ago Asagiite.

Corundum-bearing rocks in the Liangguo corundum deposit occur as lenticular and tubular bodies within gabbros. The lenses range from a few meters to 20 m in width and from a few ten meters to 70 m in length. The lenses consist of corundum-rich rock, spinel-rich rock and sillimanite-rich rock, which occur as alternative layers or bands. Marbles in the studied area show coarse-grained texture, indicating distinct contact metamorphism induced by the hot gabbro intrusion. The gabbros, corundum-bearing rocks and marbles were intruded by granite veins. The corundum of Liangguo corundum deposit is translucent, prismatic or tabular, with size of 0.1–1.5 cm, and commonly gray color, rarely red and blue. Previous explorations estimated that the corundum reserves are ∼91,000 tons. But, most corundum grains are suitable only for abrasive use. The amount of gem-quality corundum is limited and only a very small percentage is ruby (red variety) or sapphire (blue variety).
