Location & History: A B(borate)-Sr mining district located E of Barstow (within the Tertiary Barstow Basin). This district was discovered in 1882. It produced during the period 1888 to 1924.

Mineralogy & Geology: Mineral occurrence model information: Model code: 260; USGS model code: 35b.3; Deposit model name: Lacustrine borates. Controls for ore emplacement included faults. Local rocks include Miocene nonmarine rocks.

Local geologic structures include faulting. Major faults include the Listric and strike & slip faults, folds with dips ranging from 30 to 80 degrees.

Mines: Includes Need Borate Mine, Columbian Mine, Centennial Mine, Columbus Mine, Pacific Mine, Palm Borate Co. Mine, Western Minerals Mine.
