A former B(borates) occurrence/mine located in sec. 29, T10N, R2E, SBM, 2.3 km (1.4 miles) NE of Yermo, at the southern terminus of the Calico Mountains (E of the Centennial Mine), on private (patented) land. The property is comprised of 6 patented claims. Discovered in 1904. Owned by the Palm Borate Company (1907). First operated in 1907. Production years were 1907. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. This mine only operated for 10 days.
Mineralization is hosted in rocks of the Barstow Formation (lake sediments, Miocene shale). The deposit is comprised of borate-bearing shale reportedly containing 5% B2O3. Borate minerals are microscopic in the shale. Local rocks include Tertiary volcanic flow rocks, unit 16 (Northern Mojave Desert) and/or Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 3 (Mojave Desert, Death Valley area, and Eastern Sierra Nevada).
