The Boddington Shire is 120 kilometres south-east of Perth. It covers 1901 square kilometres, and has a population of 2226 (2011). Boddington itself is the only major town in the shire. The western portion of the shire is forested as part of the Darling Plateau, and the eastern portion hilly wheat-fields. Cereal growing, sheep and mining are the basis of its economy.

The Quindanning historic pub is a nice stop if travelling through the area. Beyond this attractions are largely limited to hiking in the forest during winter/spring.

The shire sits on the western edge of the Yilgarn Craton. The laterite cap above this in the shire supports the Saddleback bauxite mine. A thin greenstone belt is found west of Boddington town, and this contains the Boddington gold/copper mine, the largest gold mine in Australia. High end copper specimens came out of the original mining period, but no other specimens from the shire are known in private collections.
