About Dendoraite-(NH4)
Formula:
(NH4)2NaAl(C2O4)(PO3OH)2(H2O)2
Colour:
Colorless
Lustre:
Vitreous
Hardness:
2½
Specific Gravity:
2.122 (Calculated)
Crystal System:
Monoclinic
Name:
Named for the Dendora Valley and the Dendora Ranch, which are immediately west of the Rowley mine, Arizona - the type locality.
New structure type. Unique combination of elements (at the upload time). Chemically somewhat similar to thebaite-(NH4) (that lacks sodium as a major cation and is also less hydrated). Also compare davidbrownite-(NH4) and relianceite-(K): another two oxalate-phosphate minerals.
Chain topology in the structure is similar to that in thebaite-(NH4).
Chain topology in the structure is similar to that in thebaite-(NH4).

Interference Colours:
The colours simulate birefringence patterns seen in thin section under crossed polars. They do not take into account mineral colouration or opacity.
Michel-Levy Bar The default colours simulate the birefringence range for a 30 µm thin-section thickness. Adjust the slider to simulate a different thickness.
Grain Simulation You can rotate the grain simulation to show how this range might look as you rotated a sample under crossed polars. Each grain retains its interference colour (retardation) while its brightness falls to black at extinction and reaches a maximum between extinction positions.
