Named for the presence of silver and its relationship to dufrénoysite.
Dufrénoysite itself was named by Augustin Alexis Damour in 1845 in honour of Ours Pierre Armand Petit Dufrénoy [September 5, 1792, Sevran, Seine-et-Oise, France - March 20, 1857, Paris, France], Professor of Mineralogy in the École des Mines, Paris. The mineral dufrénite is also named in his honour.
