Koktokay (Chinese: 可可托海; pinyin: Kěkětuōhǎi, Kazakh: كوكتوعاي قالاشىعى, Көктоғай қалашығы, Köktoğai qalaşyğy) is a town of Fuyun County, Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang, China. The Irtysh River flows through Koktokay. It has abundant mineral and touristic resources, including the Koktokay National Geopark (可可托海国家地质公园).

Li-REE pegmatite bodies, related to a Hercynian granite intrusion into Paleozoic gabbro. The Koktokay pegmatite field is located in the Central Altay Domain, and mainly consists of metagabbro, metasedimentary rocks of Habahe Group, main biotite granite batholith, and abundant granite and pegmatite dykes.

Located near Koktokay (Keketuohai), a settlement with about 8,000 inhabitants at the river Irtysh. The name Koktokay literally means "blue river".

The Koktokay pegmatite field, hosted within the Central Altay Domain, comprises metagabbro, metasedimentary rocks of the Habahe Group, the main biotite granite batholith, and abundant granitic pegmatite dykes, of which the metagabbro and biotite granites formed during the Early Devonian. The Koktokay pegmatite field hosts 37 pegmatite dykes exceeding 0.5 m in thickness. Our new apatite U-Pb dating results reveal ages of 204 ± 11 Ma (No. 1 pegmatite), 198 ± 19 Ma (No. 2 pegmatite) and 201.1 ± 6.1 Ma (muscovite albite granite), which are consistent within analytical uncertainty with the formation age range of the No. 3 pegmatite (220–175 Ma). Based on surface exposure scale, three representative dykes are identified: No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3. No. 3 pegmatite contains the largest rare-metal reserves (BeO: 56,943 t; Li2O: 8,984 t; Nb2O5: 90 t; Ta2O5: 91 t; data current to December 1999), forming an economically significant Li-Be-Nb-Ta-Cs deposit renowned globally.

Note on the mineral list: Fans and radiating crystal groups from this locality are often sold as holmquistite. However, petrological and mineralogical literature on the locality describes holmquistite as sky-blue needles up to 0.5 to 1 mm embedded in the amphibolite host rock near the contact with the pegmatite. The dark crystals correspond well with descriptions of various tourmaline species from the locality and similar material has been analysed, confirming a tourmaline-group ID.
