Long-abandoned manganese mine, now overgrown with forest. Metamorphosed sedimentary Mn ore hosted in quartz schist of the Ryoke metamorphic belt. It was once famous for the world's best pyroxmangite crystals, some even facetable as gems.

There are three deposits in this area:
— Omoteyama deposit (yielded pyroxmangite)
— Urayama deposit (opposite side from Omoteyama deposit)
— Eboshi outcrop (approx. 800 m NNE from Omoteyama deposit)

Production of a small amount of uranium was reported from an adit on the lower level of the Omoteyama deposit (Geological Survey of Japan, 1961).

At present, this site is owned by a private company, and entrance to this locality is forbidden.

Description: the abundant amphibole in the sample was previously referred to as "richterite", but the high Mn and Fe contents indicate that the composition more appropriately falls along the hjalmarite-[ferri-ghoseite] join. normalized to 8Si=8 gives B-site occupancy as Na = 1.32 apfu; Mn2+ = 0.47 apfu; Ca = 0.20 apfu. Fe2O3 and FeO calculated from total Fe by charge balance; H2O calculated by stoichiometry.
