"Lagares do Estanho"
Name(s) in local language(s):
Mina do Rebentão (Lagares do Estanho), Minas de Lagares do Estanho, Queiriga, Vila Nova de Paiva, Distrito de Viseu, Portugal
Pegmatite with wolframite and cassiterite.
Mining concession no. 427 Rebentão (Sn-W), registration date 02-03-1907.
See also Lagares de Estanho mines and Queiriga.
Note about this locality name: This mine is called the Rebentao mine in the famous book of Cotelo Neiva, but among collectors, it is largely known as "Lagares do Estanho mines" which are in fact, two other mines situated close to this one.
The pegmatite lies for the greater part in granite, but its northern and southern end both penetrate into the Paleozoic country rock of the granite.
The middle of the vein is the thickest, up to 12 meters in width and 1 km in length. The pegmatite was worked over 180 m in underground exploitation.
Recently the entire mine was fenced all around, a building was constructed, and facility access created for visitors. I heard about a possible restaurant!
Felmica seems to be the last company to work here, but not for the cassiterite and tungsten.
