Miniera di Niccioleta, Massa Marittima, Grosseto, Toscana, Italia
A pyrite mine owned by Solmine. Closed before 1984.
The Niccioleta mines are very famous mostly for large pyrite crystals, but there are other great crystallised minerals that came out of the mine, such as gypsum and sulphur. The minerals can be found in two distinct environments: a group related to (and in association with) the main ore minerals and another group associated with skarn occurrences.
Minerals belonging to the first group:
Ankerite, Arsenopyrite, Azurite, Boulangerite, Calcite, Celestine, Cerussite, Chalcopyrite, Copiapite, Cotunnite, Dolomite, Enargite, Epsomite, Fibroferrite, Fluorite, Galena, Goethite, Goslarite, Gypsum, Halotrichite, Hematite, Jamesonite, Magnetite, Malachite, Marcasite, Melanterite, Orpiment, Pickeringite, Pyrite, Quartz, Realgar, Semseyite, Siderite, Sphalerite, Stibnite, Sulphur, and Tetrahedrite.
Minerals belonging to the second group:
Bornite, Chalcopyrite, Pyrrhotite, Pyrite, Bismuthinite, Fluorite, Magnetite, Hematite, Quartz, Siderite, Dolomite, Anhydrite, Erythrite, Andradite, Ilvaite, Hedenbergite, Epidote, Chlorite, and Adularia.
