Vein-type silver-polymetallic deposit in the Yidun island-arc zone.
The Xiasai Ag–Pb–Zn deposit is located in the northern part of the Xiasai monzogranite and about 2 km away from the northern margin of the Rongyicuo granite. The host rocks for the Xiasai Ag–Pb–Zn deposit ore bodies belong to the upper part of the Tumugou Formation. This sedimentary sequence consists
of gray slates, sandstones, intermediate to felsic volcanic rocks, and tuffs, with minor interlayers of mafic volcanic rocks.
It contains approximately 0.13 Mt Pb, 0.14 Mt Zn, and 1028 t Ag with average grades of 4.03% Pb, 4.30% Zn, and 337.8 g/t Ag. Other elements of economic interest include Cu (10,058 t with an average grade of 0.56%) and Sn (20,000 t with an average grade of 0.75%). Two types of mineralization, Sn-bearing
veins and Ag–Pb–Zn-bearing veins, occur in the Xiasai deposit.
The development of mineralization in the Xiasai area occurred in five stages that have distinctive mineral assemblages. The five stages include a pre-mineralization prograde skarn stage, a cassiterite–quartz stage, an early sulfide stage, a late sulfide stage, and a post-ore carbonate stage. The prograde stage is characterized by the presence of the skarn minerals actinolite, tremolite, and garnet. The high temperature (c. 460 °C) cassiterite–quartz stage hosts most Sn resources of the deposit. The early sulfide stage with chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, and minor pyrite formed at medium to high temperature conditions (c. 350 °C), whereas the late sulfide stage with galena, sphalerite, Ag-bearing minerals, pyrite, and minor chalcopyrite formed at lower temperatures (typically 170–190 °C). The post-ore carbonate stage is characterized by the presence of calcite veins that crosscut sulfides of the sulfide stages.
