Named after Hans Ramberg (15 April 1917, Trondhjem, Norway - 7 June 1998, Uppsala, Sweden), Professor of Mineralogy and Petrology at the University of Chicago, then at the University of Uppsala, Sweden. He was a pioneer in tectonic modelling with a centrifuge and was awarded the 1972 Wollaston medal.
