Name:
Named as the isometric polymorph of cubanite.
Dimorph of:
Structurally related to the Sphalerite Group.

Characteristic of high-temperature (> 200°C) present-day submarine sulphide deposits. Unstable and therefore unusual in fossil ores.
Can be formed from cubanite by heating the latter to between 200°C and 270°C; this transformation is irreversible. Also known as an artificial phase and as 'iss - intermediate solid solution of CuFe2S3 composition', 'cubic cubanite', 'cubanite II' and 'chalcopyrrhotite'.

May also transform to UM1994-22-S:CuFe (Cu1-xFe3+xS4) and chalcopyrite (Wintenberger et al., 1994).
