Birkeland, Iveland, Agder, Norge
Birkeland is the name of a farm about 8.5 km north of the center of Iveland, Birketveit.
All in all, at least 12 quarries are located in the vicinity of the farm, most of them little known. Fieldwork needs to be done in order to describe them in more detail.
NOTE (Ron Werner 23-03-2018):
Due to a mistake made by Frigstad (1986), the Birkeland 2 and 3 localities are switched.
Bjørlykke (1934) about Birkeland 2: "102. Birkeland 2. A small test pit about 200 m north of Birkeland 1."
That corresponds 100% to Frigstad's Birkeland 3.
Frigstad (2009) about Birkeland 2: "Denne pegmatitgangen ligger ca. 350 m NNE for gården Birkeland i øvre Iveland og ca. 180 m øst for Birkeland 3."
Bjørlykke (1934) about Birkeland 3: "103. Birkeland 3. A feldspar quarry on the northern slope of the hill north of the farm."
Frigstad (2009) about Birkeland 3: "Pegmatitgangen ligger ca. 350 m nord for gården Birkeland i øvre Iveland."
It is clear that Bjørlykke made a mistake by placing Birkeland 3 on the northern slope of the hill north of the farm. Neither of them is situated on a northern slope.
Birkeland 2 is situated on the eastern slope of the hill, and Birkeland 3 is situated on the southern slope of another hill.
Coordinates are for the farmhouse.
